In accordance with Article 2 of the Bavarian Law on Higher Education, the universities of applied sciences carry out applied research and development projects and projects of technology transfer in the university’s laboratories in close cooperation with industry.
Having participated in the “Bavarian High-Tech Offensive” with up to 7 projects, the University of Applied Sciences Wuerzburg-Schweinfurt is now engaged in projects of the German Research Society (DFG) and the European Network EFRE with a budget of about 1 million Euros. The University of Applied Sciences is also in close co-operation with several Steinbeis-Centres. A further element of the technology and knowledge transfer is the participation in the BMBF programme “Promotion of application-oriented research and development at universities of applied sciences”; the Fachhochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt ranks high on this programme.
Last but not least, the faculty of electronic engineering at the Fachhochschule Würzburg- Schweinfurt is carrying out its own research project as part of the German Research Foundation’s (DFG) specialisation programme. These projects help to achieve a considerable consolidation of technology competence, in which the areas of specialisation of “medical technology” in the field of electronic engineering and “setting up the centre of competence for integrated product manufacture” in the field of mechanical engineering are particularly prominent.
