Applied research and development play an important role at the Ohm-University. It is one of the Bavarian Universities of Applied Sciences that carries out the most research projects, which take place in its many institutes and faculties: the „Institute for Energy and Buildings", the „Institute for Vehicle Technology", Europe's first „Application Center for Polymer Optical Fibres", the „Center for Materials Analytics", the „Institute for Electronic Systems", the „Institute for Interdisciplinary Innovations", the „Institute for Interdisciplinary Health Promotion" and, not least, the „Georg-Simon-Ohm Management Institute". Development of new optical data transmission technology, analytical studies of components and systems of vehicle parts or energy and facility management for buildings are just some of the fields dealt with in the university institutes.
Numerous laboratories with excellent equipment provide the best conditions for hands-on research. Students work closely on projects in the labs and profit from the „Ohm's" extensive expertise in research. Most research projects are run in close co-operation with companies, associations and public institutions, and in connection with the international science community. This guarantees an education with scientific practice and graduates with worldwide employability.
