Whereas the City of Deggendorf with approximately 35.000 inhabitants can look back upon a long history, the doors of the University only opened for teaching in October 1994. From Deggendorf, it takes about an hour to get to Munich International Airport by train; Nuremberg and the Austrian border are 170 km and 60 km away, respectively. The shortest route from Munich to Prague is by way of Deggendorf.
